The Science Behind

The aging process occurs because:

  • Skin cells are constantly being copied and divided to replace shed cells with new cells

  • Over time, daughter cells begin to look different due to cumulative damage from oxidizing sunlight exposure

  • Surface cells become dry as UV damage depletes the moisture barrier and allows water to evaporate

  • UV exposure / damage causes harmful free radicals, leading to thin skin, wrinkles, pigment spots, or even skin cancers

THE IMPORTANCE OF EXFOLIATION

Natural exfoliation, shedding surface skin cells, slows as we age. The result is a loose, thick layer of dead skin cells on the surface. Over time, this layer becomes rough and reflects a dull color. This can lead to uneven texture, irregular pigmentation, and early wrinkles. Removing this layer of dead skin cells results in a younger, brighter complexion and helps prevent the appearance of signs we associate with the aging process.

The use of lactic acid in Theraderm products dates back to 1988 when it was used on aging skin to exfoliate and rejuvenate. The application of Theraderm Fruit Acid (lactic acid) as part of a daily skin care routine exfoliates dry, outer-layers of skin and stimulates the natural growth of new cells.

  • Lactic acid utilizes normal enzyme sequences in the process of exfoliation and is less irritating to the skin

  • It is the primary regulator of the immune system, so it increases critical T-cell proliferation and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) to combat skin cancer formation.

  • Lactic acid is manufactured commercially by the fermentation of molasses.

  • Lactic acid use results in a minimal chance of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scars.

  • It has proven to be an effective humectant (attracts water molecules).

  • Lactic acid enhances absorption of other substances (e.g. lanolin, moisturizer and vitamin C)

Peptides are the off-on switches for every chemical reaction that takes place in the body. There are an estimated 18 million different peptides necessary for normal body activity and metabolism.

Soluble Keratin Peptides are covered by 31 different patents for medical wound healing properties but are uniquely available only to Therapon Skin Health for use in topical skin care products.

Acetyl hexapeptide-8, which is marketed under the trade name Argireline, is a neurotransmitter derived from natural proteins. These peptides limit the muscle contraction of repetitive facial movements, but mimics the effects of botulinum toxin A, or Botox. Acetyl hexapeptide-8 has no negative side effects as it weakens the wrinkle-causing muscle activity.

Matrixyll is an anti-aging ingredient peptide with demonstrated ability to help repair damage-prone papillary dermis, which is immensely affected by photo aging. Papillary fibroblasts are fundamental to promote epidermal morphogenesis and wound healing that is why papillary dermis repair delivers visible anti-wrinkle benefits. Matrixyl delays photo-induced aging by 5.5 years.

Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, an ingredient of Theraderm's Lip Complex, is a fairly new peptide and is being researched as the next best thing to retinol, without any side effects. While its main function is to restructure cutaneous tissues, palmitoyl oligopeptide can also increase collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and glucosaminoglycan production for smoother, wrinkle-free, rejuvenated-looking skin. wrinkle-causing muscle activity.

Traditional skin care products act to repair damage from an injury after it has already become permanent. We believe that being proactive can minimize an injury and reverse inflammation. Therapon Skin Health now has proven, patent-pending, research findings in a breakthrough discovery method for impending daily injury from sun exposure which leads to visible damage in an aging appearance over a lifetime.

We leverage our scientific research findings with cutting edge ingredients to create an easy-to-use daily skin care regimen. Our ultimate goal is for skin to stay healthy and look younger.

Several ingredients in the Theraderm Skin Renewal System have properties to diminish free radicals.

Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins

Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) are the most powerful free radical protective antioxidants ever known. The OPC molecules are 20 times more effective as scavengers than vitamin C, but they enhance the speed of collagen repair by assisting vitamin C. By recharging “spent” vitamin C that has captured a free radical, OPC decreases the need for increased oral or topical vitamin C.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid

Alpha-Lipoic Acid is an excellent radical scavenger with the truly unique ability to pass easily through lipid membranes or mix in waterbased environments. It acts easily in the mitochondria inside cells, in tissue spaces, or in the bloodstream. Alpha-Lipoic Acid is an important component in the energy production process in all cells, it's a coenzyme that assists in the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-coA. Acetyl-coA is the beginning point for the Krebs cycle, one of the body's main energy productions cycles, which produces the high-energy molecule ATP.

James S. Beckman, M.D., founder of Therapon Skin Health.

He obtained his medical degree from the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1970, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Arkansas Medical Center (1971-1975) and a plastic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee (1975-1977). Dr. Beckman began his private practice in 1977 where he served his community as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon for 24 years.

Dr. Beckman has created products that address a wide variety of skin conditions including acne, deep wrinkles and uneven skin tones. Theraderm continues to deliver an ongoing stream of world-class solutions for an ever-widening circle of skin conditions.
